The Nigerian Bar Association {NBA},Ibadan branch Anti-Touting And Ethics Committee, on Tuesday embarked on the raiding of those engaging in illegal practice of law, touting and unlawful preparation of legal documents.

The News Agency of Nigeria {NAN} reports that among the courts in Ibadan metropolis raided by the committee were Iyaganku, Mapo, Gate and Iwo road courts and no fewer than 27 suspects were arrested by the committee and police.

The  raid was led by NBA Ibadan’s Chairman, Mrs Folasade Aladeniyi, Secretary, Mr Olakunle Akintola, the Anti touting Committee’s chairman, Mr. Segun Popoola among others.

Among those caught by the  Anti touting committee were road side typists doing  land agreements and preparing other legal documents meant solely for lawyers, lawyers who are violating the ethics of the legal profession by engaging in ambulance chasing, touting at the Criminal  registry of Courts, fake lawyers among others.

The Secretary of the bar,  Mr. Olakunle Akintola remarked that in a bid to sanitize the legal profession and regulate conduct of lawyers and ensure that non lawyers refrain from engaging in illegal practice of law , it became imperative to carry out a general raid which is what we have witnessed today.

Akintola stated further that the core mandate of the Anti touting Committee of the Bar is the maintenance of law and order in the practice of law, waging war against all forms of  touting, ambulance chasing, illegal practice of law, impersonation and illegal representation in courts.

“The suspects have been taken to the police station, their profiles taken and they will be charged to court in due process,” he said.

Akintola also used the medium to call on the public to only engage qualified lawyers especially for preparation of legal documents and not road side ones. {NAN}
