RCCG demands justice for UNIBEN undergraduate who was raped and killed

The Redeemed Christian Church of God has commiserated with the family of a 22-year-old undergraduate, Uwaila Omozuwa, who was raped and assaulted in a parish of the church in Benin, Edo State. According to  The PUNCH, t he Head, Media and Public Relations, RCCG, Pastor Olaitan Olubiyi said  on Sunday  that the victim was a committed chorister in one of the church’s parishes. He asked the police to get to the root of the case and bring the killers to justice. Omozuwa’s brutal killing has been trending on Twitter, with many Nigerians, including celebrities, calling for justice. The victim, who recently gained admission to the University of Benin, was said to be aspiring to be a nurse. She was said to have been going to the RCCG, Miracle Sanctuary, Edo Province 10, to study. Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Lagos State Police Command, have arrested a 19-year-old National Diploma holder of the Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, for plotting to blackmail popular artiste, Salawa Abeni. The suspect, Olufowoke Emmanuel, said to be a resident of Ogun State, was picked up by the decoy team of the RRS last Thursday. The police were said to have been trailing Emmanuel for three days. The artiste recently went on social media to raise the alarm over plans to blackmail her with her nude photos. She posted her WhatsApp conversation with the suspect and the purported old photos he planned to use for the blackmail. Eleven men Rape 12-Year-Old Girl in Jigawa

F or allegedly rapping a 12-year-old girl, t he Jigawa State Police have arrested eleven men suspected to be involved in the ilicit act According to Nigerian Cable news, the incident happened in Dutse Local Government Area of Jigawa state.  Spokesman of the State police command, SP Abdu Jinjiri, confirmed. Jinjiri explained that the incident had occurred at Limawa quarters in Dutse Local Government Area of Jigawa State. He said that the arrest was made after the police in the area received a complaint that one Alh Zuwai, 57 years old of Ma’ai village in Dutse local government was seen at Limawa market trying to lure a 12 year old girl of the same address to a hidden place, to have intercourse with her.   A fifteen year old boy has been reported to have forcefully have a carnal knowledge of a three year old girl. The incident according to witnesses occurred on Saturday in Osi Ekiti, Ido Osi Local government area of Ekiti state. Undergraduate Raped, Killed While Reading Inside the Church

An undergraduate female student(name withheld) was reportedly raped and killed while reading Inside the Church.  It was reported that the tragic incident had happened three days ago.  According to friends, they saw her attackers smashing her head with a fire extinguisher and leaving her unconscious around the Ikpoba Hill area of Benin City, the state capital. Despite being rushed to the intensive care unit of a hospital, Omozuwa couldn’t make it as she succumbed to the injuries sustained during the savage attack. The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has said the lockdown occasioned by the coronavirus pandemic would produce “great things”. The 78-year-old cleric stated this on Sunday during a sermon broadcast live via the church’s media, DOVE TV. Adeboye, who traced lockdown to the era of biblical characters like Joseph, Elijah, David, John the beloved, and many others, said one of the “great things” that would come out of the lockdown is an increase in birthrate all over the world. How fire destroys properties worth billions in Lagos

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, and the Federal Fire Service have curtailed a midnight fire at Olaleye market, Shomolu area of Lagos which occurred at midnight on Saturday. The fire which engulfed several shops in the market started around 3:30 a.m. and has led to the destruction of goods worth several billions, the agency said. According to a statement by Nosa Okunbor, the spokesperson of LASEMA, the operation to curtail the raging fire lasted for over two hours, and officials of the Federal Fire Service were able to avert the spread of the fire to nearby residential buildings. The cause of the fire could not be ascertained as at the time of this report. New Coronavirus case confirmed in Owo.

The Ondo state government says it has confirmed another coronavirus infection, bringing the total number of active cases in the state to four. Commissioner for health, Dr Wahab Adegbenro while confirming the latest case to Radio Nigeria in Akure,the Ondo state capital said the patient, a male, was now at the Infectious disease Hospital Akure for treatment. Dr Adegbenro explained that the patient was picked from the federal medical centre Owo after presenting with COVID-19 related symptoms and later tested positive to the disease. Dr Adegbenro noted that contact tracing of the patient had begun to prevent community transmission especially in Owo. The latest infection now brings to twenty five the total number of COVID-19 cases recorded  in Ondo state since February, nineteen have been discharged, four active cases and two death. Prisons Official tests Positive to Coronavirus in Ondo

As the country has continued to battle coronavirus pandemic, Ondo state has now recorded 25 cases with the latest one discovered yesterday. This is contained in a verified twitter handle of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) also put the total number of COVID-19 cases in Nigeria at nine thousand three hundred and two. Similarly, an official of the Nigerian Correctional Services (formerly Prisons) who is resident at Ijoka road in Akure, has also tested positive to COVID-19 and now receiving treatment at the Ondo state Infectious Disease Hospital, Akure. A middle-aged man identified as Chukwudi has reportedly died after he was electrocuted. The incident was said to have occurred at Opobo road of the Ogbor Hills axis of the commercial nerve of Abia state. It was gathered that the deceased whose traditional marriage was some weeks ahead after discovering that there was light in his neighbourhood while there was no electricity supply in his apartment started looking for a ladder to apparently switch to the next active line. Fear grips residents over mysterious death of Septuagenarian in Ondo

There was pandemonium at Irun Akoko in Akoko North West local government area of Ondo state yesterday when the lifeless body of a 70 year-old farmer, Raphael Ojo Osayintuyi was discovered on his farm. It was gathered that there were rumours that the old man was killed after having an altercation with some herdsmen whose cattle destroyed his crops. Another account said that an herdsman came to the nearest farm camp to report seeing the lifeless body of the late septuagenarian on the farm. A villager who preferred to speak under the condition of anonymity, said the situation was said to have flared up anger in the people who thereafter attacked the herdsman, alleging him of hacking the farmer to death. Pastor sentenced to Death in Ondo

Pastor Kolawole Samson  has been sentenced   to death by hanging  by ondo state high court sitting in Akure,  f or killing one middle aged man, Ayo Olaniyi in a village near Okeigbo area of the state .  The trial judge, Justice Ademola Bola held that Pastor Kolawole was guilty of inflicting injury on the deceased’s head with a cutlass at Gberinlegi Village, via Okeigbo, which later led to his death at hospital. Earlier the state attorney general and Commissioner for Justice, represented by two government’s lawyers Mr Olusegun Akeredolu and Mrs Omotola Ologun, had told the court that the pastor on 3rd of March, 2016, inflicted deep cut injury on the head of late Ayo Olaniyi when he went to hunt for frogs with his three other friends at a fish pond owned by the convict at the village, near Okeigbo. Fourteen Corp Members sanctioned in Ondo

Fourteen corps members of the 2019 Batch ‘B’ (Stream 1) in Ondo state have been sanctioned by the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC ). The state coordinator of the NYSC in Ondo state , Mrs Grace Akpabio disclosed this in her farewell message to the outgoing corps members. The programme which was conducted under strict observance of COVID -19 protocol was devoid of fanfare, pomp and pageantry. According to Mrs Akpabio, the long arm of the law caught up with five corps members whose case is pure abscondment and were recommended for repeat of service pending ratification by Headquarters. The Kogi State Government has rejected the two cases reported by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC). F ollowing the sudden death of a patient who died as a result of complication from Coronavirus pandemic few days ago, it is a scenario filled with  panic and fear amidst the people of Igbara-Oke Community in Ifedore local government area of Ondo state  It was learnt that those living in the town especially health workers at Government’s General Hospital, Igbara-Oke who had contacts with the deceased patient and their family members who are secondary contacts, were said to be gripped by fear of contracting the disease. FG to give conditions for schools reopening

The Federal Government on Wednesday said it will soon release the course of action for the reopening of schools in the country. The Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha, stated this during a briefing on Monday in Abuja. The Secretary to the Government of the Federation urged stakeholders to begin to take steps that would aid the reopening of schools in the country. SGF HAND OVER MADAGASCAR’S DRUG TO HEALTH MINISTRY

Barring any last-minute change in plan, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, will on Wednesday (today) hand over Madagascan native formulation for the treatment of COVID-19 to the Ministry of Health. Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, disclosed this on Sunday evening during a program on Channels Television Sunday Politics. Over a week after receiving the Madagascan formulation for the treatment of COVID-19, the Presidency had yet to send the samples to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control for testing. The report had quoted a source as saying that the drug, which was delivered to President Muhammadu Buhari by his Guinea Bissau counterpart, Umarro Embalo, 10 days ago, had remained in the possession of the SGF. Four grave diggers nabbed with human heads in Ondo

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested  four men for being in possession of  human heads. The suspects were said to be workers at the Akure South Local Government  Council’s cemetery. They are Adewale Abiodun, 40; Akinola Sunday, 69; Oluwadare Idowu, 67; and one Olomofe, 45. The workers were apprehended while severing the head of a newly-buried corpse at the cemetery on Saturday. A source said a few hours after the corpse was buried, the family of the deceased returned to the cemetery to make arrangements on how to cover the grave in concrete. The source stated, “On getting to the grave, the family members met the suspects digging the grave with the intention of exhuming the corpse. “It was at that point that it was discovered that the suspects had four severed male heads and a female head. “They immediately invited men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, who arrested the suspects.”.
