Abducted Nigerian Student Regains freedom in Ibadan

  A student of the University of Ibadan who was kidnapped on his father’s farm on Monday has been released.  It will be recalled that he (Odetunde Emmanuel ) was abducted around 5 p.m. while working at his father’s poultry in Oke Odan, Apete area of Ibadan, Oyo State. Confirming the release of the victim to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) today in Ile-Oluji Ibadan, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Olugbenga Fadeyi said the victim was released by his abductors on Thursday and had been reunited with his family. He said the release of the victim would not stop police investigation into the case, adding that “they were still on the trail of the abductors”. However, a member of the family, who declined to be mentioned because he is not authorised to speak, also confirmed the release of the victim. Makinde to NWC: Call PDP National Legal Adviser to order

Governor 'Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, on Thursday, asked the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to call its National Legal Adviser to order to ensure rancour-free zonal congresses in the party. Governor Makinde, who stated this while briefing newsmen at the Government House, Agodi, Ibadan, said that the South West zone of the party was ready for its zonal congresses, adding that party leaders in the zone were already working towards a united party. Jegede VS Akeredolu: Tribunal okays April for judgement

The  Ondo State election petition tribunal  has fixed April 2021 for judgement. Chairman of the Tribunal, Justice Umar Abubakar gave the ruling after counsel to parties adopted their written addresses. This  followed  multiple hearings on the petition filed  by the Peoples Democratic Party and it’s candidate, Eyitayo Jegede challenging the victory of governor Oluwarotimi in the October 2020 election. Adopting his final brief of arguement, Counsel to the petitioner, Onyechi Ikpeazu accused defence counsel of trying to trivialliase constitutional matter. He insisted that Akeredolu and his Deputy, lucky aiyedatiwa were not validly nominated to contest in the poll. However in his final address, counsel to INEC, Charles Edosomwan faulted the claim of the petitioner that akeredolu and aiyedatiwa were not lawfully sponsored by the APC He therefore prayed the tribunal to dismiss the petition for lacking in merit. Makinde reopens Sasa Market, lifts curfew

Governor ‘Seyi Makinde of Oyo State on Tuesday directed the immediate re-opening of the crisis-torn Sasa market, in Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo state. The governor, after a meeting with representatives of Yoruba and Hausa communities who are stakeholders in the market, said that he has agreed to reopen the market, having been assured of sustained peace. The stakeholders were led by the Baale Sasa, Amusa Alabi, and Seriki Hausa of Sasa, Malam Haruna Mai Yasin, to the meeting which held at the Western Hall, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan. A member of the House of Representatives, Abiola Peters Makinde has defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, read a letter on the floor on Tuesday, announcing the defection of Makinde, who represents Ondo East/Ondo West federal constituency of Ondo State. In the letter, Mr Makinde cited leadership crisis as the reason for his defection. He stated that the crisis “has created factions and divisions within the party.” Due to the absence of the Minority Leader, Ndudi Elumelu and Deputy Minority Leader, Toby Okechukwu, Nicholas Ossai (PDP, Delta) raised a point of order, objecting to the defection. Officers of the defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS have yet again been fingered in a case involving extrajudicial killing of one Gbenga Aremo on 26th if May, 2010. Sister to the victim, Mrs Jimoh Bosede yesterday told the Judicial Panel of Enquiry on Police Brutality and Other Matters in Ondo State that the victim was arrested at a beer parlour. She revealed that one officer Tajudeen, aka Oloriebi asked her to bring the sum of 120,000 naira for his release but she later heard that Aremo's body had been deposited at the mortuary by SARS operatives, adding that it took the intervention of traditional leaders and politicians for his corpse to be released. Medical consultants appeal for reopening of hospitals in Ondo

EndSARS: Damages at Okitipupa secetariat cannot be quantified ---LGA

Owing to the wanton destruction of Okitipupa Local Government Secretariat, the management of the LGA Secretariat has disclosed that the damages done by hoodlums during the protest are beyond physical damages. The Hope gathered that aside property worth 600 million naira that was damaged during the protest, historical records, monuments, ancient books, chieftaincy records and many other valuables lost cannot be quantified. Popular Yoruba freedom fighter, chief Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho has accused the Federal Government of freezing his bank accounts, following his attack on the killer-herdsmen in Oyo State. Igboho, while speaking on Tuesday said all his bank accounts have been frozen by the Federal Government because some people were collecting donations. However, Igboho said he had no hands in the said donations, warning that his accounts must be unfrozen to avoid nationwide protest by youths across the South-West region. Ministry of Justice petition IGP, Commissioner in Ekiti

The Ekiti State Ministry of Justice has file a suit against the Inspector-General Police Ibrahim Adamu and the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Tunde Mobayo as well as the Police Service Commission in defense of the rights of the woman police officer Miss Olajide Omolola. The International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) Ekiti state chapter had written a petition to the state ministry of justice over what it called illegal sacking of the pregnant woman police. In a Suit number (FHC/ AD/ CS/ 8/ 2021) filed in the Federal High Court, Ado-Ekiti Judicial Division by the ministry of Justice seeks a determination of several questions including whether by the combined provisions of Sections 37 and 42 of the constitution  of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended), and Articles 2 ,3, 5, 18 (3) as well as section 19 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights.
