Tragedy as Lady Found dead in Ondo Hotel

The family of a lady, identified as Damilola Yekini, whose lifeless body was reportedly found inside a popular hotel in Ore, the headquarters of Odigbo Local Government area of Ondo State, has called on security  agents not to treat the case with levity.  They are smelling a rat as to how their relation died under befuddling circumstances.  A close member of the family who spoke with our correspondent decried the nonchalant attitude of the hotel management and the security personnel, who he said were yet to apprehend the fleeing lover.  Weekend Hope learnt that the body of the victim, a 27-year old petrol attendant, was discovered on Tuesday evening, after some hotel staff members entered the room, following repeated knocks that went unanswered.  Meanwhile, the deceased's family members, who lamented the situation, said they suspected a foul play.  The hotel, situated along the busy OreOkitipupa Road and known as a regular stop-over for travellers and local...

University Lecturers Dismissed, Students Rusticated

The Vice Chancellor of Newgate University, Prof. Sadiq Yussuf, has disclosed that the university dismissed two lecturers and rusticated five students in a move aimed at sanitising and strengthening the institution’s academic system. The VC made this known during a media briefing where he further disclosed that the institution adopted stringent measures against examination malpractices, which he said resulted in the disciplinary actions. Police Officer stabbed to death in Ondo

The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed that a police officer was attacked and stabbed along the Arakale axis of Akure on Tuesday morning, contrary to widespread speculations of a fresh assault later in the night. Clarifying the situation, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Olushola Ayanlade, stated that the incident occurred earlier in the day and not during the evening as rumoured across the city and social media platforms. According to Ayanlade, the officer was attacked by a suspect who has since been arrested, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other accomplices linked to the violent act. “There was no police officer attacked or stabbed tonight. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports on Monday that the indefinite strike, which started on Nov. 17, has now entered Day 8. The UCH JOHESU embarked on the indefinite strike to demand an upward adjustment of the Consolidated Health Salary Scale (CONHESS), as done for the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) in 2014. NAN observed that the laboratories, the health record, engineering, physiotherapy, emergency, and pharmacy departments were not operational, as workers deserted the areas. A group of government‑recognised farmers in Irore Ajelanwa Community, OA3A Oluwa Forest Reserve, Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, has petitioned the Assistant Inspector‑General of Police, Zone 17, over alleged threats to their lives and forcible entry onto their farmlands. The petition, signed by their solicitor Henry Akingbesote and dated 30 October, alleges that one Damilola Olowoniyi invaded the community’s cocoa plantations with a group of armed men, issuing threats and demanding that the farmers vacate the land.  The farmers cultivate about 251 hectares of cocoa and say they are lawful government tenants and beneficiaries of the Ondo State Cocoa Revolution Programme, coordinated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.  They are duly registered with the state government and pay annual rent into the government treasury for the portions of land allocated to them. They spoke in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Ibadan to commemorate the 2025 World Toilet Day. NAN reports that World Toilet Day is commemorated annually on Nov. 19 and the 2025 celebration is themed “Sanitation in a Changing world.” They highlighted the importance of good sanitation and the health risks associated with poor sanitation and toilet hygiene.
