Ondo Commissioner in trouble over Alleged Assault

A Magistrate Court in Akure, the Ondo State capital, has ordered the arrest of the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Seun Osamaye, over an alleged assault on a Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Temitope Alphonso. According to the charge, the alleged assault occurred at the premises of the Ministry of Women Affairs while Chief Magistrate Alphonso was on an official engagement with the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, in the presence of ministry staff. In an affidavit attached to the charge, Magistrate Alphonso stated that the incident followed a judgment she had earlier delivered which was unfavourable to the commissioner. The affidavit alleged that the commissioner responded by verbally abusing and physically assaulting the magistrate. Stakeholders review health sector, call for improvement

Dr Obitade Obimakinde, former National Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), said the 2025 health budget increased by nearly 60 per cent compared to 2024. Christmas: rebuild trust, promote unity - Bishop Akinfenwa urges Nigerians

Joseph Akinfenwa, has urged Nigerians to work together to rebuild trust and promote unity in the country as Christians celebrate Christmas. Akinfenwa gave the advice on Wednesday in his Christmas message made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan. He urged leaders and citizens to align and embrace the message of love, hope and peace that Christmas represents. The bishop called on the government to take more decisive and sincere steps to secure lives and property. Emmanuel Badejo has urged Nigerians to use the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ to bring an end to banditry and injustice in the country . Badejo emphasised that Christ’s birth should also bring an end to bad governance, bribery, corruption, bloodshed and all vices. Ondo State ranks as one of the lowest in multidimensional poverty across Nigeria, the Federal Government has said. Dr. Bernard Mohammed Doro, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, disclosed this on Tuesday during a luncheon of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa with traditional rulers at the Government House banquet hall in Akure. He stated that while Nigeria’s national poverty rate stands at 63 per cent, with 30 per cent classified as ultra‑poor, Ondo State maintains a comparatively lower rate of 27.7 per cent.  The minister added that his ministry has begun implementing policies to reduce poverty and support citizens in achieving resilience, independence, and self‑sufficiency.
