Ekiti House Speaker, Olufunminiyi Afuye dies

The Speaker of the 6th Assembly in Ekiti State, Rt Honourable Olufunminiyi Afuye is Dead.

The 66 Years old lawmaker from Ikere Ekiti was reportedly rushed to the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital in the early hours of  Wednesday over cardiac-related issues.

His last official engagement was on Tuesday when he accompanied the Governor of the State, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji to inspect some bad portions of roads in Ado Ekiti.

The state government is yet to release an official Statement as at the time of filing this report

Court Strikes out Oniju of Iju-Odo Chieftaincy Declaration

A High court sitting in Okitipupa has nullified the Oniju of Iju-Odo Chieftaincy declaration, holding that the State Government had no power to create a new chieftaincy without the consent of the Rebuja of Osooro land, the prescribed authority over chieftaincy matters in the communities within Osooro land, including Iju-Odo Community. The court declared that the Rebuja of Osooro land is the prescribed authority over chieftaincy matters in Osooro land and that the State Government has no power to create a new chieftaincy without following due process.  In a judgement made available to our correspondent, the court also held that the appointment of the 6th defendant as the Oniju of Iju-Odo was null and void, as it was not done in accordance with the custom and tradition of Iju-Odo.
