The Osun State Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Tosin Odeyemi, has resigned from the NNPP and joined the newly registered Democratic Leadership Alliance . Odeyemi, an ally of former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, announced his resignation in a letter dated July 16. He has now been appointed the pioneer Acting Chairman of the Democratic Leadership Alliance in Osun State. His appointment, approved by the party's National Executive Committee, was conveyed in a letter signed by the DLA National Chairman, Samuel Memeh. Ondo: Father allegedly burn teenage daughter with Hot Iron for bedwetting

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested one Amos Paul, a resident of Unaun, Upenme, Owo Local Government Area, for allegedly inflicting grievous bodily harm on his 10-year-old daughter. The incident, which was reported to the Police on Thursday, 16th July, 2026, revealed that the suspect allegedly used a hot pressing iron to burn the private part of his daughter, as punishment for bed-wetting. The victim sustained severe injuries and was immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owo, where she is currently receiving medical treatment. NHRC Oyo records over 100 complaints in 6 months- Official

Akintayo disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Ibadan. She said that gender-based violence and child rights violations were the most reported cases. “The highest percentage relates to gender-based violence and child rights violations such as child abuse, sexual violence, defilement, and denial of maintenance; these remain the most prevalent,” she said. She listed other violations reported to include unlawful arrest and detention, law enforcement agencies misconduct, labour related disputes, discrimination, landlord and tenant disputes involving assaults, and violations of the rights of Vulnerable Groups. CPNN promises psychological support for rescued kidnapped Oyo children, teachers

The network made this known in a statement issued on Monday in Ibadan, by its State Coordinator, Dr Rosemary Odigbo. The News Agency  of Nigeria (NAN) reports the pupils and teachers  abducted during the attack on Ahoro-Esiele Community, in Oriire Local Government Area (LGA), were rescued on Friday. The victims were abducted on May 15, when heavily armed gunmen invaded the community, kidnapped the pupils, teachers and the principal of the schools. A 30-year-old man, Musbawu Amodu, has been arrested by the Nasarawa State Police Command for allegedly beating his wife to death following a domestic dispute in Agyaragu, Obi Local Government Area of the state . The incident reportedly occurred after an argument between the couple over the preparation of a meal escalated into violence. Confirming the arrest in a statement on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, said officers responded to a report that the suspect had physically assaulted his 20-year-old wife, who later died from injuries sustained during the attack. NAN reports that 44 of the pupils and teachers abducted during the May 15 attack on Ahoro-Esiele community in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State were rescued on Friday. The pupils and teachers abducted by suspected gunmen in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State have regained their freedom after spending more than 50 days in captivity . Their release was announced on Friday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, in a post on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account.
